  15. 'Tis the Season To Plant a Bomb

  17. <p>     Christmas comes but once a year--for which Londoners can be
  18. thankful, since the Irish Republican Army has chosen to mark the
  19. season with terrorist attacks. Last week a bomb exploded at
  20. London's Clapham Junction, the country's busiest railway
  21. intersection. No one was injured, but an estimated 500,000
  22. commuters were affected and the city's businesses could lose
  23. around $90 million.

  25. <p>     Since Dec. 1, the I.R.A. has set off 25 fire bombs across
  26. the country in a campaign of economic sabotage. Although no one
  27. has yet been hurt, one device went off at London's National
  28. Gallery.

  30. <p>     In Northern Ireland the activities of the I.R.A. and
  31. Protestant extremists have been more lethal, taking 89 lives
  32. this year. But as a government spokesman explained, "It doesn't
  33. make news to bomb in Northern Ireland. Fire bombs in London at
  34. Christmas cause lots of publicity."
